Royal LePage president and CEO Phil Soper was recently named the 2014 CEO of the Year and recipient of the CEO Award of Excellence in Public Relations by The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) of Toronto.

Created in 1991, the CEO Award of Excellence recognizes communications excellence and advocates that a successful CEO must be an excellent communicator who can express a clear mission and shared values with a broad range of stakeholders, supported by outstanding business performance.

Past recipients of the award include: Galen G. Weston, Loblaw Companies; Dominic D’Alessandro, Manulife Financial; John Betts, McDonald’s Restaurants; Jim Leech, Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan; Frances Lankin, United Way; Charles Baillie, TD Bank; and Robert Deluce, Porter Airlines. Soper is the first CEO from the real estate industry to be recognized with this honour.

In a news release, CPRS Toronto says, “Soper’s work in defining the company’s vision and communicating it with impact across Canada has been a demonstration of how communications can be a game changer in business strategy and business results. Since assuming his current role at the helm of Royal LePage in 2002, the business has more than tripled revenue and doubled agent count.”

The CPRS Toronto CEO award is presented annually and determined by a selection committee comprised of the society’s past presidents. The award will be handed out on Jan. 28 at a celebratory event in Toronto, where Soper will deliver a keynote address.
