The executive officer of the B.C. Northern Real Estate Board, Dorothy Friesen, has been awarded the AEC Award of Excellence for 2009. The presentation was made during the opening ceremonies of CREA’s Leadership Conference in April.

In 1989 the Executive Officers Council (the predecessor to the Association Executives Council) established the Frank Johns Award to recognize outstanding contributions by association executives to organized real estate and their communities. In 2006 the AEC reviewed the relevance of the award to ensure its recognition as a career award presented to individuals who exemplify professionalism, commitment and leadership. In 2007 the award was renamed the AEC Award of Excellence.

Award criteria and qualifications were revised, along with the nomination and selection process. Dorothy Friesen is the third recipient of this new award.

“I am deeply honored by this recognition from my peers,” Friesen said in accepting the award. “I also cannot accept this without acknowledging those who have won it before me. Their dedication to our industry and members is an inspiration.” She said it was important the AEC Award was not a lifetime achievement award. “There is so much more I want to do,” she told delegates at the CREA Leadership Conference. “I am nowhere close to being done yet.”
